05:45 pm - Theft At Federal Way
One of the skaters from Pattison's West in Federal Way had their purse stolen out of the rink during a practice. Scary. You can see the story here. I'm usually pretty good about making sure my purse and what not is in my bag and I always sit near our cadre of parents who make excellent watchdogs, but I think I'm going to start being extra careful.

09:28 am - Roll Bounce Night (aka help me get to Nationals)!
As a fund raiser before we head off to Nationals, my team is hosting the 2nd annual Roll Bounce Night on Saturday June 28th from 4 to 7pm at Auburn Skate Connection. Tickets are $10 and include skate rental and a spaghetti dinner. We will also have demonstrations of artistic and speed skating as well as jam skating. The jam skating demos will be (most likely) done by local jam skaters, who performed in the movie Roll Bounce. It should be a good time.

The flyer is below (click for larger version). If you are interested in buying a ticket, let me know. All the money I earn on this will help me go to Nationals in July.

07:54 am - 2008 Books #2
Yes, it's been awhile, but I have been busy. I will probably miss a few in this round-up, but here goes. This is pretty much what I can recall reading. There has also been a pile of comics, as well as a few reread books because I felt like poo.

07:53 pm - Job Opening
They just posted the listed for my part-time assistant this week! It's a full-time gig, based in Shoreline, with half the time dedicated to the applications department and half to me. Very entry-level and the bennies are good. http://www.kcha.org, if anyone is interested.

07:07 pm - Battle in Seattle 2008
Long weekend. We had some great racing and some bad crashes. My team did not do fabulously, but that's okay. We don't want to be too cocky as we head to Regionals next month in Portland. I raced better than I expected, given the allergies. Only really died in one race, though the hacking and coughing was (still is) impressive.
Day by Day Breakdown )

All in all a good meet. I saw some friends, got some new outdoor wheels at a discount, and picked up a bunch of gossip. I know what I have to work on headed into Regionals and then Nationals in July.

Before all that fun, we have Outdoor qualifying clinic this weekend. For once, I am praying for clear weather. Josh and Linda Wood are great coaches and I really want to see what they can teach me about outdoor, which I am not comfortable with.
After this weekend, I can breathe, if only a little, maybe remember what my friends and family that don't skate look like.

07:10 pm - Busy Day
Today was my jewelry party. We had a good time, even though there were quite a few no-shows. Pretty much me, my mom, [info]ladykatryna, [info]lithera, and [info]puppygrrl (who had to take off because of a migraine). The work/illness/car/crisis monster definitely hit my party. Oh well. If you missed out but still want to order, I have catalogs and order forms. The only catch is that I'd like to get my order in within the next week, give or take, so that those that came don't have to wait. Of course I still have to decide which shinys I want......

I have so many leftovers that there will be snack food for gamers tomorrow. Lucky dogs. The menu included fresh fruits and veggies, Trader Joe's artichoke jalapeno dip, homemade hummus, foccacia from a mix, a oatmeal orange raisin bread, and cookies from Borachinni's (those were popular). The house is also nice and clean. I've had a nap and the plan is to Merc it tonight. I feel accomplished, yet rested. I also feel spoiled because Sean made dinner. Om Nom Nom. I eat now.

06:13 pm - 2008 Books
So, this year I decided I was going to tell the world what I have been reading. Well, then Life snuck up on me and I kept putting off this post. No more! I am going to tell all you lovely people about the books I have read (so far) in 2008.
In no particular order.... )

01:28 pm - Made it Home
Made it home last night, around 7ish. The plane was about 30-odd minutes late and the customs line was evil, but that was about it. After dropping my mom off we headed home, unpacked and ordered a pizza from Stellar. We watched an episode of "Lost", ate pizza, and then headed to our much-missed bed. I didn't sleep great, since at about midnight my body decided I should be awake. Even given that, it was the most restful night I've had in 2 weeks. I love my bed.

Today, I have gotten my car tuned, been to the dentist and started bread and laundry. Sean got MAJOR points by taking a lunch break to run me out to the U-district to get my car, since they got it done early and I was at the mercy of the holiday bus schedule. Now all I have to do is some meal planning and skating practice. Tomorrow I go back to work, where my email awaits.

09:32 pm - Viking! Ships!
Today we went to Roskilde to see the Viking Ship Museum. Oh. My. God. So. Cool! There were bits of boats that had been pulled out of Roskilde Harbor (where they were sunk to provide protection), there were reconstructed ships, dioramas, people teaching rope making and a neat lady working on weaving a wool sail, which they are going to test and compare to linen. Experimental archeology is soooo neat. I even bought a book in the museum store, which I never do.

After the Vikings, we hit Roskilde Domkirke, which was cool, in a cathedral, dead kings and queens sort of way. There is a ton of reconstruction going on and I got to see on of the people working, in a little hut inside the cathedral. Neato.

The other big thing about this excursion? Hills. There is an actual, honest-to-goddess hill in Roskilde. We walked up and down it. Also, I got hungry and did not kill Sean. I only growled at him a little. This is a minor miracle.

10:34 pm - Copenhagen Days 3, 4 and 5
The last 3 days have been filled with museums and castles, courtesy of our Copenhagen Cards. [info]seanb has posted the full list over on his journal. Frankly, at this point, my feet are desperate for a break. We have several plans for he next week, but I am really I am looking forward to:

- Nys Carlsberg Glyptoteket: Mummies! Greek Stuff! (oh, and some art). We're heading here tomorrow, since it is nearby and free on Sundays.
- The Viking Ship Museum. Viking ships pulled from Roskilde harbor and rebuilt. Need I say more? We're making a day of it and also checking the cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

There's also the National Museum to hit, as well as some shopping to do. H&M is calling my name......

10:23 pm - Copenhagen Days 1 and 2
Yesterday [info]seanb posted about our first day in Copenhagen, with pictures. The post is here. He pretty much covers it all. The only other thing to add is that Danish hot chocolate = awesome. Hunks of chocolate on sticks, melting into milk. Plus you get a choice of dark or milk chocolate!

Today we did a bit of wandering and a lot of napping. I'm still getting over being sick and my ankle hates me. We did make it out to the Rundetaarn (Round Tower), which is tons easier on the feet than the Tower Bridge in London, since it is mostly ramp. Nice view too. For dinner we managed to find some reasonable Thai, based on an anti-recommendation in a guide book. On the way back we stopped at 7-11 and procured ice cream bars.

Tomorrow, we expect to slack and plan, since the plan is to activate the Copenhagen Cards on Thursday. Therein we will proceed with 3 days of heavy-duty sightseeing, to get maximum value from said cards.

03:31 pm
Yes, there is snow. There go my plans for tonight. I am not driving to Mukilteo after dark. Seattle drivers are too scary in the snow, so I will stay home safe and warm. Even if it's not sticking on the roads, it's wet and will get icy. No frakking thank you. Here's hoping it goes away fast, I have a team meeting in Auburn tomorrow at 11:30.

Before the snow, I was almost productive today. Sean and I went and got a joint checking account for dealing with household expenses. had lunch (including ice cream) at the Husky Deli and I went to the chiropractor. The snow hit while I was being adjusted, so my drive back was a bit interesting.

In other news, I know it's short notice, but Tinman premiers tomorrow night on SciFi channel. If anyone wants to come watch with myself and [info]seanb, just let us know. There might even be treats.

08:53 pm - Ruins
I found this blog post via Slog this evening. The images are just lovely. They remind me of sitting on the pebbly beach on a grey day in Brighton, looking out at the ruined pier. It was one of the few times that I wished I carried a camera with me.

A few places with shots of what I looked at in Brighton:

10:56 pm - To [info]puppygrrl
I'm sorry! I completely spaced on what day it was! Any (slim as hell) chance I had at remembering went away when the charlie horses hit as I was taking off my skates. I am a bad friend and I owe you dinner.

On the plus side - I scared several kids with the expression on my face from the cramps.

The best part? I'm going back for more tomorrow. Possibly two, if I can spare the gas money.

[info]seanb is the best-est boyfriend in the world. A few reasons
* He cooked dinner last night. A yummy delicious dinner.
* He drove me around Ballard and the U-district after I crashed a bike I was testing and tore up my hand and arm. There was a 40oz beer can in the road that I didn't see.
* After the crash, he bought me a cupcake.
* He let me take as many naps as I wanted this weekend.

Best Boy Friend EVER

10:21 pm - TangoMagic Classes
I finished my 3 classes at this year's Seattle TangoMagic festival, on Sunday so now I will entertain you with my notes, which have been running around in my head for the last few days. Really, I should have done this Saturday after my first 2 classes, but my feet hurt to much. Overall, I really enjoyed all my classes and I hope to do more of the festival next year.

06:33 pm - Heard On the Radio
Am I the only one who is intrigued that Sweet Water is back together and working on an album? I was listening last night to 104.9's Grunge hour and they were playing a track off their first album and mentioned this little factoid. I'll be interested to see what they come up with 10+ years later. I remember seeing them at Pain in the Grass years ago.
